Serial Cereal Eater (Seriously)

Karson is a big growing boy, and has demonstrated a big and growing appetite.  In addition to needing a little supplemental formula to get through the day, he seems to keep wanting...MORE.  He's also demonstrated a readiness to try new foods, by both eyeing up and reaching for ours, as well as having pretty good control of his mouth and tongue.  So with our doctor's blessing, we decided to let him have a little taste of cereal and see how it went.

His first feeding was when Nana and Papaw were up to visit.  Karson did GREAT!   It was just a tiny bit to practice using a spoon and see how he would react to the flavor.

He loved it, and didn't waste a drop!

We now do a small serving of cereal most evenings.   And he continues to do great.  Although...now that he knows how to blow raspberries...it has gotten a bit messier...

And sometimes he prefers to play with his feet.  (You try feeding cereal to *that* without making a mess.)

But cereal, feet and all...who wouldn't love this face?

Here we go again!

Justin is being relocated for work.  We are very excited about the change, the location, and the opportunity.  Lots to do in the coming weeks!

  • We have to prep our current house, list and hopefully sell it.
  • Find a new house, and in the meantime coordinate the temporary living situation, including accommodating a growing and changing baby.

Ok, so I somehow made that only two bullet points, but they are BUSY bullet points!

Notice what is NOT on the list?  "Find Melody a job."

Because...

I've been hired too!

We'll be sad to leave the current house, coworkers, church, and friends.  During our short time, "here" has been good to us.  Karson was conceived, (tmi, I know) carried and born here.  It was his first home, and it will always be a special place. I do not believe that everything happens for a reason.  But I do believe our time here was part of God's plan for us.  We could not have asked for a better OB for Karson and me, a more understanding boss for my pregnancy/maternity, or a more perfect home for our growing family.

But we are excited to move on to the new "home", and create lots of memories there as well.

If you're thinking, "Didn't they just move"?  "Who would want to pick up and relocate with a baby"?  "How many homes are they going to live in?"   "Sure seems like a lot of career changing?"

Well...you're right.

But for us...that's just Life As We Know It!  And perhaps out of sheer ignorance...we wouldn't have it any other way!

Four Months!

Karson is four months old today!
Here are some facts about four month old Karson:
  • At his four month appointment today, he weighed in at 16 lb 2 oz, and was 26 inches long.  In terms of percentiles, he is 75% in weight, 90% in length and 97% in head size.  So he's long and lean with quite a melon!
  • He sleeps through the night ... (as in past 5:00 am) most of the time.  Randomly we'll have a night when he gets up once or twice.
  • He giggles now, particularly when we swing him in our arms or make silly faces.
  • Hair watch:  still waiting...  :-D
  • He's in size two diapers, and 3-6 month clothing.  Although, as soon as we switched to 3-6 month clothing, I discovered a few pairs of footed PJs that he is already getting too long for!
  • He is a talker!  On the drive home, he and I usually mimic each other.  He's discovered a squeal and likes to use it often.
  • His hands are getting stronger.  When I go to pick him up he usually grabs on to something and doesn't let go. (Dangling toys, little blankets etc).  And unfortunately, he'd discovered the art of pulling hair!  He's got quite a grip!
  • We're still waiting for him to roll over.  He plays on his side a lot, but doesn't reach that "tipping" point.
  • He thinks it is hilarious when Justin holds him off of the ground in a crawling position.  We're pretty sure he thinks he is accomplishing that himself.  :-D
  • Favorite toys are still anything dangling from his floor gym, but he also loves his glow worm.
  • He started day care and is adjusting well.
  • Bath time has become splash time.
  • He went for his first "swim" and it was a success...although he seems to prefer his bath tub!

Here's the little guy at four months...finally discovering there's someone else in his photo!
